started watching geek girl couldnt even finish the first episode bc its so fucking clearly written by a bunch of white people. the premise begins with a conventionally attractive skinny white girl thats an outcast in a fashion school she has a gorgeous brown best friend that wants to become a model (geek girl doesnt want to become a model) and said best friend is passed up by a black designer that says that while shes beautiful shes not unique (which is completely untrue) and that hes looking for something unique in which he stumbles upon geek girl and its just like she looks like every other model. its so infuriating to see this constant narrative of the fashion industry looking for something new when the standard has ALWAYS been white like completely unoriginal ungroundbreaking underwhelmingly uninspired. and like???? hes a black designer. the black designers ive worked with normally preferred to work with black models just as asian designers in my classes favored asian models and whites whites and so on etc. the clothing we create reflect ourselves and that is such an important narrative in the fashion world because we so often are not given the same opportunities our white peers are given and we have to work so much harder for the same goals. at the end of the day, when given options, poc designers usually favored poc models because theyre an extension of us. anyways rant over shits just lame as hell goodbye
